About Us
Mission
The mission of the tiny-k Foundation is to enhance tiny-k services for infants and toddlers with special needs in Kansas.
History
2002: In a regional/state meeting of tiny-k (also known as early intervention) Network Coordinators, the idea for a new organization was generated. From that time, leaders from the tiny-k Networks worked to establish a non-governmental organization through which the tiny-k Networks could combine their search for adequate and stable resource levels for local programs.
2003: A group of tiny-k program coordinators determined that in the face of limited state and
federal resources, a state-wide funding mechanism should be established in order to maintain services for infants and toddlers of Kansas. Without a state-wide comprehensive plan and assertive measures to secure additional funding, the tiny-k programs would not be able to sustain even a minimum level of services. This would result in some Kansas children being denied an opportunity to overcome disabilities and lead an independent life. With the support of a ($10,000) grant from the Kansas Health Foundation, the group of 36 program coordinators formed the tiny-k Foundation, a Kansas not-for-profit corporation. The initial tasks included development of a strategic plan, identification of (new) funding opportunities, and the acquisition of funding to support the tiny-k network agencies throughout Kansas.
2004: The tiny-k Foundation was approved as a 501 c (3) with Public Charity Status.
2007: The tiny-k Foundation is administering three grant programs:
- March of Dimes (MOD) community grant,
- “Tomorrow’s Baby Fair! Getting ‘Really’ Ready Today”
- Sunflower Foundation, capacity building grant “Big Steps for Little People”
- AmeriCorp*VISTA, fund raising development within local tiny-k (early intervention) networks ‘tiny-k Foundation 2007”
